Over the next week, Rafe and I retreat into our intimate bubble. We cook together. We make love. We surf. We swim. We make love again. We live in our bathing suits, or nothing at all. Our skin gets tan and our hair is sandy.

He doesn’t push me to talk about things I don’t want to talk about. I can sense that he’s frustrated by this, but there are some lines I just don’t want to cross, especially not here and now, and he backs off. We talk about the weather, my surfing technique, movies we’ve watched. He doesn’t tell me he loves me again and I’m relieved by this.

I don’t know how to feel, so I just live entirely in the moment. These moments are the best I’ve ever had, so it’s easy enough to do.

After taking me so roughly on that first day, he’s gentler now, mostly, but there’s an edge to him. I’m immersed in the beautiful, strengthening bond between us, but I notice it. It ghosts at the fringes. Off-hand remarks that are easily overlooked between the Bollinger and the warm ocean water and the full-body orgasms.

You’re mine.

You’re moving in with me as soon as we get back to L.A.

I’m never letting you out of my sight.

I go with it, but I wonder how it’ll all play out once we’re back in real life. It’s easy enough to give myself to him entirely in Hawaii, but things will have to change once we’re back at work, with business meetings and schedules to keep and inevitable separations.

I know his obsession borders on the extreme. But I can’t quite bring myself to worry about this. I can’t fault him for his dedication to me, can I? Besides, I like that he’s attentive and possessive. I’m sort of basking in his adoration, because it’s so new to me. He’s loving and sweet and … well, hot as fuck. If anything, I encourage him, by teasing him and inviting him at every opportunity I get.

It’s not a one-way thing. We’re addicted to each other.

It’s just after breakfast on our seventh day in Hawaii. “We’re going to go out on the boat today,” he says.

“You have a boat?” He might be talking about the one I’d seen in the shed. “That sounds fun.”

“It’s over at the marina. We’ll stay on it tonight.”

He drives us to the marina and parks the Range Rover before leading me along the narrow winding docks to one of the bigger spaces. “This is it.”

My jaw actually drops. “Rafe. This isn’t a boat. This is a yacht. A very huge yacht.”

“Yeah,” he says, blasé, like why wouldn’t we be spending time on what’s basically a massive multi-million dollar toy that he occasionally uses when he just happens to be in the mood? “Come on.”

Holy shit, is what I’m thinking, as he leads me aboard. It’s a super-yacht, the kind with its own crew and kitchen and pool. There’s a hot tub on the deck next to the built-in, cushioned seating area.
